BACKGROUND

Hypatia of Alexandria (350-415 AD) was a philosopher, astronomer, mathematician and a teacher.
The monologue ‘Hypatia’ sheds light on the life and thoughts of a woman, who was consecrated
to sience and philosophy - and it also reflects the reasons which led to the brutal murder of her.

The play builds a bridge between the historic city of Alexandria (the center of philosophy and sience)
and the world of today’s political, scientific and religious atmosphere.

The monologue is a fiction that brings Hypatia from history to this day.
